DIWHY is a Boston based Public Access/Web show. We explore different topics each week &
try to relate the world of doing it yourself to everyone else. We consider ourselves a talk show for the people not yet famous. A place for artist to talk their craft & feel validated in their process. We shoot 1-2 times a month mainly on Saturdays so if you are in town around then maybe we can work something out. We welcome all types of performers & creators- you could be in a band, an artist, a comedian, a Circus performers, or whatever. If you can do it yourself we would love to have you on the show! The Democracy Center Show-Booking Collective
The Democracy Center hosts all ages, alcohol & drug-free benefit shows with an emphasis on DIY ethics. We aim to provide a safe(r) space, with no tolerance for oppressive language or behaviors. Locals can book shows by submitting via our website; bands are vetted & bookers must volunteer at a show before theirs. PWYC/NOTAFLOF. Door money is split between benefit org & bands (& a small space fee). If you're a touring act, you may need to find a local to book your show! But contact us anyway to see if someone from our collective can help; occasionally we have capacity to book shows ourselves but usually we focus on running the space. Accessibility: We currently require masks, have air purifiers throughout the space, as well as other COVID mitigations. We have a wheelchair ramp that enters the building from Bow St, but our bathroom isn't ADA compliant; the bar next door allows our patrons to use their ADA compliant bathroom as needed. WHITEHAUS
Lovely music & arts home, centrally located in Boston! This house has existed in many facets...
Currently we have a garden (my favorite), 2 dogs, 2 cats, 3 old electric organs, 1 much older pump organ, 1 baby grand piano, 1 upright piano (both need some tuning), a piano sound board from a baby grand (that I need help lifting onto saw horses), a basement where loud shows happen. Quiet shows can be in the 'hoot room' (where the pianos are), in the basement or possibly on the porch / backyard....
What we can offer to touring folks ::: a nights sleep out of the elements. Shower with soap (no towels, sry), limited bedding. But def. food, many dumpsters around here too. and door money. Money gets split to everyone that plays but priority goes to the touring band. I also book an outdoor series in the summer in some abandoned bear cages here in Boston too.. the line up is about 10 bands, 15min. sets.
Art & community are grown in parallel, in response, to the world.
Difference is celebrated. Not only tolerated.
