What is DoDIY.org?

A catalog of event spaces and organizers from around the world, as well as resources for anyone interested in the DIY ethos. DoDIY exists to support DIY spaces, organizers, musicians, performers, writers, activists, and other like-minded folks. Besides the catalog of spaces and organizers, the site also hosts a list of fests & fairs, relevant reading materials, and related resources. DoDIY's focus is primarily on all ages spaces & events that are DIY on purpose.

Can anyone submit their info to DoDIY?

Yes! The organizer list part of DoDIY is specifically for DIY spaces or organizers with a DIY ethos. The only criteria is that you book all ages shows and you care more about music than money. I tend to not list bars/18 or 21+ places unless there are some special circumstances. I also don't list spots that are pay-to-play, or where the band has to book their own show.

How do I submit my space/fest/related resource to DoDIY?

You can fill out this google form, or send me an email: alyssa [at] dodiy [dot] org - here's some handy stuff to copy & paste. Please only submit space/organizer info if it's your own. I don't list any organizer info without prior consent.

If you're submitting your space/organizer info:
- City, State/Province/Region/etc, Country
- Name of space or organizer
- URL if you have one (please only 1 URL if you can help it)
- A short 'about' blurb with info you want bands to know
- Best way for folks to contact you
- Best email for me specifically to contact you

If you're submitting a related resource:
- Name of thing
- URL

If you're submitting a fest or fair (gotta be all ages):
- Name of fest/fair
- URL (please no facebook events, facebook pages are fine)
- City, State/Province/Region/etc, Country
- Month in which it usually occurs (if it varies, just say so)

If you're submitting recommended reading:
- Name of thing
- URL(s) to read, print, and/or buy

If there's a spot you think I should list:
There's a channel for this in the form, or you can email me their link/contact info (or better yet, send them to me).

If you're allergic to email, you can send me an instagram DM @dodiynews, but it will invariably take me longer to get back to you that way.

Why are so many listings out of date?

Short answer: The nature of DIY means there's a lot of turnover. If you happen to know for sure that a space is no longer active, you can email me (alyssa [at] dodiy [dot] org) and I'll remove it when I next make my rounds.

Long answer: I'm one person and there are hundreds (at least) of listings on the site. I spend countless hours maintaining this massive resource for free, in my spare time. Sometimes the 'last update' date isn't current, but the spot is still active and just hasn't updated their info in a while. Sometimes I contact spaces to update their info and they never get back to me, but look active so I leave them up. You know how when you're booking a tour and you spend hours sending emails and get like 3 back? That's what maintaining this website is like. Please humor me (or help me lol).

Why did you change my blurb slightly?

If you included exact dollar amounts or an exact address (or anything else I feel could get you in trouble), I probably removed it or made it more vague. If it was super long, I sometimes trim them a little too.

I wanna help! How can I do that??

First of all, thank you!! There are lots of ways to help, I've outlined some below. Feel free to contact me at alyssa [at] dodiy [dot] org to let me know how you'd like to help out!

For free:
- Tell people about the site!
- Follow @dodiynews on IG or FB
- Submit your space/organizer info
- Tell me about a space you think I should list
- Submit your local music fest, zine fest, anarchist book fair or punk rock flea market
- Submit some DIY music zines/books for recommended reading

Time investment (more info on the VOLUNTEER page)
- Volunteer to be a point person for your area, and inform me of new spots as they pop up
- Volunteer to comb through the website for defunct spaces
- Volunteer to contact spaces to see if they'd like to be added to the site
- Volunteer to look up fests & fairs to add to the site
- Print out some copies of this zine or flyer and pass them out locally or on tour (hmu if you need instructions for folding the zine)!

Money investment:
- Make a one time donation via venmo (@dodiy) or paypal (alyssa [at] dodiy [dot] org)
- Become a supporter on Patreon
- Become a sponsor & get an ad on the site
- Pay to have your band listed under your city in the space catalog

How do I advertise on your site/become a sponsor?

You can pay $10/month or $100/year to have a 100x100 pixel ad at the bottom of several pages of the site, just send me an email: alyssa [at] dodiy [dot] org and let me know how long you wanna run the ad. I can make you an image if you need one. I usually use recurring paypal invoices but I can do a different payment method if you need.

How do I donate?

Pop on over to the donation page- I accept donations through venmo (@dodiy) and paypal (alyssa [at] dodiy [dot] org), or you can become a Patron if you'd like to make a monthly donation that comes with some snail mail goodies (pricing tiers range from $1/month to $10/month, you can cancel any time).

No.

What if there's an abuser listed on DoDIY?

Please email me at alyssa [at] dodiy [dot] org to fill me in on the situation and show me receipts if possible. I believe in transformative justice and community accountability processes. I don't wanna uplift anyone who is unrepentant about hurting people in their community. I will quietly pull them from the site and provide explanation only if they reach out, you can let me know what you'd like me to say to them if they contact me, otherwise I'll be vague to hopefully protect survivors from retaliation.
